I was talking with Miss Dwayne, she said, "Itzhak told me that he wants to perform Beethoven's Opus 127 quartet this summer in Aspen." I asked, "Who would be playing second violin?" She said, "I don't know. I don't think he's chosen anyone yet." I decided to go to Aspen a week early and walk around all day long, hoping to run into him. On the fifth day, I was in a drugstore when he came in. I walked up, said, "Hello," and then added that I heard he wanted to play quartets this summer and if he needed a second violinist, I was available. He smiled and we parted. Two days later, I got a call, "Mr. Fitzpatrick, are we rehearsing at your place or mine?" And so I played Opus 127 with Perlman and Ryan Leonard and Walter Trampler.
