So, have you ever considered that being too judgmental can actually hold you back? Sure, making judgments and acting on them can lead to positive outcomes. But that being said, we really need to be cautious as being too judgmental can bring on some seriously negative consequences.

For example, did you know that constantly focusing on your mistakes can cause you to doubt your abilities? This kind of focus can turn you into your own worst enemy, completely undermining your confidence and your ability to improve.

Did you know that fear of failing can hinder risk -taking and creativity? It can make you more hesitant to experiment with interpretive choices or even perform in front of others out of a fear of falling short, out of a fear of failing.

Did you know that comparing your playing to others, you know, constantly measuring your progress and abilities against those of your peers, or renowned violinists can bring feelings of jealousy, resentment, and discouragement? So, it's sure that judging requires that we set high standards, but we need to remember that nobody's perfect.

While we must strive to achieve the best possible performances, pushing too hard can lead to a huge amount of frustration, which can eventually lead to burnout.

So, at the end of the day, being overly judgmental can hinder the joy and satisfaction that comes from making music. If you're prone to self -criticism, it might be useful to cultivate self -compassion, resilience, and lots and lots of patience.

Embracing these qualities can help you form a more positive approach to judging, impacting your practicing, performances, and life as a violinist.

Self judgment is a major struggle for me but I didn't realize it could hinder improvement among the other things you talked about. Thank you for making this video. It was most helpful for me as I am a perfectionist and at times my own worst enemy.
