I became very despondant my 2nd year at Juilliard and fell into a crises. I needed to talk to someone and am still so appreciative that Julian was there. We talked till 4 in the morning even though my jury was at 8:50. Afterwards walking with Ms Delay she said "Billy we have to figure out how to get you to play well even when you don't feel like it". As we entered her studio I told her that I would be leaving Juilliard but that I would return every other week for lessons. She was furious. But I did return and after the first one I asked her how much I owed her? She said that she had missed so many lessons she would have to think about it. I never paid a penny that year.
