It was the early 70's, we were students with limited resources so we played at this expensive restaurant, for a free meal. This particular evening things were going along normally when the front door opened and Ms Delay entered followed by Itzhak Perlman. They walked by us as we were playing and then went to their table which was not close enough for us to see. We were nervous but kept playing. We stopped for a moment and that's when I heard footsteps advancing towards us, looked up and it was Perlman who stopped in front of us and asked "Can I play?". We were stunned but of course said yes. The other violinist in the quartet saw my total enthusiasm and said that he would step out and watch over our shoulders and that was that. I got to play Mozart's quartet KV 421 in d minor with Perlman in an Aspen restaurant.
