Violin Basics: So do you know how to recover when you mess up?

Okay, so what happens if you're doing a run through in preparation for a concert and you make a mistake? Let's see, you might simply go back and do it again.

Or you might quickly fix it and continue playing.

Or you might stop, look annoyed, and then attempt to move on.

Well if you react like this or in a way similar to these, I think you're missing a great opportunity.

I mean what if you were not to react and just kept going? What if you allowed yourself to work your way back into the music? Think about it. I mean if you were to do this, imagine what great information you would get about what you needed to do if this were to happen in a performance.

Not only that, but doing this can help quiet all the negative chatter that goes on inside our minds when something like this happens in a performance.

How so? Well, you see your mind would be so occupied with getting back on the path that you wouldn't get sidelined thinking about what had just happened.

But you know what? Do remember that even the most accomplished violinists make mistakes. So if you consider that you as well are not perfect, when you mess up during a practice run through, stay calm and just keep going.

Try to work out how to get back into it and then remember what you did to do it. So now having practiced like this, when you are performing a concert you can feel a bit more confident because you know that should that mess up occur, you have a plan.
