Does Virtual Sheet Music have any plans for making a program that takes existing music and transcribes it as sheet music? This would be for either a single instrument like a trumpet or piano. If not do you have any recommendations? I know this is an extremely complex program.

Good question Stan. Well, that's something that is on our "future plans list," of course. Technological advances are emerging that will allow us to do something like that reliably. For now, the systems available are still too rudimental, and the results are not great.

In any case, yes, that's been in my mind for a while (2-3 years?), and we'll definitely tackle that opportunity when the right time comes.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Tried the Playground for the first time today using the demo Ode to Joy. Reset it to guitar G major(5) OK. Next, tried to get a print but because I am new at Playground tried all the buttons to get a print but failed and need to try again. Liked the Playground and will try again, it is just what I will be able to use to change my music to what I want. Thanks for a Graet program.

Thank you Michael for your provided feedback.

The fact that you haven't been able to print out your music doesn't sound right. Could you please provide me more details about it? For example, did the Playground give you any errors? What browser did you use?

I look forward to hearing from you.

The whole purpose of working with Virtual is to find a way where I can take a PDF Sheet music and change it to audio. So making an XML file is a huge step and I thank you for that. However, I can't transfer this to a flash drive as a sound file. so I can use it for practice. Is there a way to do this or has tech not advanced that far? thanks

Hi Stan. Are you asking to allow the conversion of imported files to audio files so to be playable on any audio player? If so, that's certainly something we could work on.

Please let me know if that's what you are asking for.
Stan * VSM MEMBER * on September 23, 2024 @8:29 am PST
I think we are onn the same page. XML is not an audio file like mpe3. So it would be nice to be able to convert the XML file to MIDI or mp3 and then use it to play along in practice. Is this a doable thing? I could copy the mp3 on a flash drive and then play it on a speaker which will produce more sound than my computer speakers. Thanks

Sure thing! That can be done, even though with some work. We'll try to add such a feature in the next big update.
Stan * VSM MEMBER * on September 23, 2024 @7:12 pm PST
Ok thanks. do you have any idea when the next update will be?
Fabrizio Ferrari - moderator and CEO, on September 24, 2024 @7:38 am PST
Unfortunately not. That depends on how many feature requests we receive and how fast we can deploy them. I'll definitely keep you posted about yours, though. Winky Face

I do not want to keep bugging you but do you have a guesstimate as to when the next update will be. Maybe you don't and it could be next year but it would be good to know what you are thinking. Thanks
Fabrizio Ferrari - moderator and CEO, on September 24, 2024 @7:39 am PST
Well, I hope we can do it by the end of this year. I'll keep you posted!

I retried using the new Playground. I made sure that the scanner glass was clean using an electronic wipe. Then I set the scanner to 600 dpi. It came through much better. Not perfect. So now I have XML file. I can't export it to my flash drive so I can use my speakers to play along. My computer speakers don't play it loud enough.

I do not know if a question asked here is the same as the feedback in Playground. If it is, sorry for the repetition. I have a piece for both piano and Bb trumpet. The music is already transposed so the music is in two different keys However when the PDF is downloaded it comes in one key. Of course, it sounds horrible. Do you have any remedies or suggestions? Thanks

This is the right place where to ask questions Smiley Face

About what you are describing, that shouldn't happen. Please wait until we update the Playground with the new upcoming version 1.7. It should be online within 24 hours. Then try again.

If the problem persists, please let me know, and we'll try to figure it out.

All the best,
Stan * VSM MEMBER * on September 19, 2024 @6:04 am PST
Ok here is what happened to me Just the facts. NOt complaining. I have a piano and Bb Trumpet piece. The piano is in Eb and the trumpet part is already transposed to F and up one note. After down loading the piece "Playground" added a base guitar staff. At first the piece was ok but suddenly the trumpet line was changed to F. Any suggestions? I am going to try again and see if it works the second time. Thanks PS if you need more info just ask. I am more than happy to try to explain or even send you the file that it downloaded.

Don't worry Stan! You can ask as many questions as you like. Ok, I see what you mean. Did you import the music as a PDF file or a MusicXML file? Or did you try to edit one of our music from our catalog? Please, let me know so I can better help you.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Stan * VSM MEMBER * on September 18, 2024 @8:07 pm PST
As you have said this is limited. Are you working on transposition of an instrument to be able to play with the piano. For example A Bb trumpet playing In F the piano would play in the key of Eb down one note. So the question is this, Is it possible to transpone only one part?

Fabrizio Ferrari - moderator and CEO, on September 20, 2024 @6:05 pm PST
Hi Stan and sorry for my late reply.

Yes, we are going to launch a new version (1.7) of the Playground in the next 24 hours. Stay tuned for it because it'll allow to transpose to any instrument by keeping the instrument note range and much more.
Bassgrl * VSM MEMBER * on September 17, 2024 @10:42 am PST
Good for quick transpositions but on tablet/mobile device didn't actually allow me to save the pdf to download for use outside of playground

Be able to change(edit notes) once transposed for notes falling outside of staff/instrument register range OR have a SMART recognition where it will automatically adjust/correct those notes per instrument/ staff register

Better chord recognition on staff

.xml work better than .pdf but not bad needs more selective editing features

Thank you Bassgrl for your posted comment and thoughts.

You should be able to save/download the PDF file of the music displayed on any device. Please let me know what kind of device you are using so I can help you with that.

About your mentioned "smart" recognition, well... we are going to release soon the new "smart transposer" feature which will help with that a great deal. We are in the final testing phase right now, so it should be ready very soon.

About your mentioned "Better chord recognition on staff," could you please tell me more about it?

I look forward to hearing from you.
Bassgrl * VSM MEMBER * on September 18, 2024 @7:57 pm PST
Sure. I mean chord progressions for notation/ lead sheet... I often have Christian contemporary string add-ins with the chord progressions above and sections clearly marked like 'Intro, interlude, chorus, refrain, turnaround, outro, etc.) Some of that gets lost. EXCITED for the "smart transposer" feature especially since it won't let you edit individual notes that didn't transpose properly in the right register or in staff for the instrument/ clef.

Got it. Thank you for explaining. I think the problem is still related to the optical music recognition system, which needs to be improved even further. We'll work on that.

As for the new Smart Transposer, it should be ready in 24-48 hours! We are completing the final testing as we speak.

Thanks again for your provided feedback!

I have a Samsung S9 Ultra and tried to save the pdf to device but I pressed the button 'save pdf' but nothing happened. There was no pop-up or anything indicating that it saved and when I checked files nothing had been saved.
Fabrizio Ferrari - moderator and CEO, on September 20, 2024 @7:52 am PST
I am sorry about that; that shouldn't happen. I have a similar Android tablet (Google Pixel) and everything works as expected. I'll do some research and I'll let you know if we find anything related to that to fix.
